Joining Up

If its time to get in the game then the question is how?

Of course, there are a lot of things an individual can do.  Voting for candidates that best represent my views, blogging, writing letters to the editior, promoting my views with relatives, friends and associates and so forth, are things I can do.  However, to have a chance of making any difference, I think involvment in a political party is necessary.

Its ironic to me that to preserve, promote and defend my individuality and individual rights, I find it necessary to join a group!

I'm joining the Republican Party.

Again, I'm forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.  But, the Republican Party claims conservativism and it does have a consevative bent.  The Republican Party is not perfect, but neither am I.

Lesser Evil

Every Presidential Election since 1988 my choice has been between the lesser of two evils.  I knew that George H. W. Bush was not a conservative.  But I did hope that he and the Republican Party had learned something from Ronald Reagan.  Alas, after two years in office Bush broke his word and agreed to a compromise with Democrats in the House and Senate and increased taxes.  So much for lip reading.

Thankfully, the Republican House under Gingrich kept Clinton from doing too much harm and gave me hope that conservativism might still prevail in the Republican Party.  George W. Bush dashed that hope.

In 2008 the Republican Party offered up John McCain and the choice of voting for "liberalism-lite" over the real thing with predictable results.

It shouldn't be so hard for the Republican Party to recognize that promoting American Individualism and American values, keeping your word, keeping spending under control, keeping taxes low and developing free-market solutions to economic problems is how they can best serve the country and win elections.
